Alastair was the first to finish with a draw. David did well to win his game. Tony seemed to have an equal position in terms of materials but his opponent’s white pieces, the queen and the rook had the initiative in starting a check on the black’s king with a result a sustained attack resulted in Tony losing the game. Watching from afar I initially thought Martin was making headway with his pawns into his opponents territory. I did not realise he was a piece down. Even though both Martin and Tony lost, they were the last to finish suggesting they did give a valiant effort in attempting to salvage their positions. Subas felt he was on the backfoot defending his position playing as black. Lichess engine showed the positions were fairly equal at different stages of the game. In the end game his opponent was up with two pawns but doubled up and only had a slim advantage. He would have required enough concentration and skill to go for a win. Subas managed to reach his required 35th move in a time scramble and none of the players was recording the last few moves. Subas offered a draw and his opponent accepted it. Paul had to adjourn his game to another date and lost.
