Ealing Chess Club’ annual Lightning Tournament took place on Monday 28th September attracting an entry of 19 players from all age groups, including some new faces.

The format for the event benefits those players who can win quickly as they can fit in more games before time is called than those who grind out their results.

after a few games, it became clear that we had a fierce contest on our hands with several contenders for the crown. Most notably, young Devina was blazing an impressive winning trail against all-comers including a ratings defying win against the 1950+ rated Duncan Grassie.

Andrew Harley and reigning champion Jonathan White were doing their best to keep pace and we’re both unbeaten until Andrew took the spoils in their head to head.

The battle went down to the wire before Andrew finally pulled ahead after Devina suffered her second defeat against Jonathan.
